These works were carried out whilst the hospital was open. Consequently works had to be programmed so as not to disturb the normal running of the hospital or to cause disturbance to patients.
Asbestos was found to some ceilings, mainly bathrooms, and this was removed by a licensed asbestos removal company as part of these works.
Yeovil District Hospital has 322 beds and provides in/outpatient services in gen & respiratory medicine, cardiology, urology, paediatrics, care of the elderly, rheumatology, gastroenterology, diabetes, dermatology, surgery, trauma & orthopaedic surgery, gynaecology, obstetrics, A&E, ENT, oral/maxillary-facial surgery, orthodontics, radiology, histopathology and haematology.
